I'm so excited I just had to share my good news. I'm a premium subscriber who listened via Windows Media. I live in the country and the wiring out here is ancient. My connection was always interrupted with that irritating buffering/stuttering. Solo Piano channel was the worst. The other day, on a whim, I installed Winamp and now I'm listening stutter-free at 256k. SKY has never sounded so beautiful!
An added benefit of Winamp is a small notification comes up in the lower right hand corner that lets you know IMMEDIATELY the name of the song and artist. In fact, the info usually comes up a few seconds BEFORE the new song which gives you time to "prepare" for a favorite tune. This feature also comes in very handy when I'm listening to the Solo Piano channel as I don't know many of the selections/artists. I'm loving the Winamp experience. This morning on the Smooth Jazz channel we had Kim Waters, Boney James and Brian Simpson back-to-back. I had my Surround Sound cranked up so the windows were shakin'! ![]() Winamp 256k + 5.1 Surround Sound + SKY.fm = one of life's greatest joys! |

altho I use exclusively Windows Media Player on my work computer where I listen the most, I have used Winamp & can echo LaBonBon's recomendation. on a side note WinMedia does display the current song if you have the settings right, but it is easier in Winamp.

Ditto. Of all the players I've tried, Windows Media Player is the least stable. Winamp is nice, yes, as are several others. My personal favorite is Amarok, which is rock solid, sounds nice, and feature packed.

From their web site:
"Amarok is a powerful music player for Linux and Unix, MacOS X and Windows with an intuitive interface. It makes playing the music you love and discovering new music easier than ever before - and it looks good doing it!" amarok.kde.org/ It plays streams from Sky.fm (and others) flawlessly, handles many more file formats than Windows Media Player, lets me sort and search and organize my music in a hundred different ways... I could go on and on. As a classical music fan, I especially like that I can search and sort my music both by performing artist and by composer, something a lot of music players can't accomodate. Give it a try. |
